1807 1c MS 62BN PCGS POP:4/4 $13,500
*Draped Bust. S-276; Large Fraction R1. Frosty chocolate and steel brown with some lighter tan coloration, mainly about the protected areas and more prominent on the reverse. A few tiny marks on the shoulder and one just above the drapery on the neck are the only contact marks worthy of mention. The reverse is rotated 35 degrees CCW from a normal head to foot orientation. Overall nicely struck EDS, much sharper than usual for the variety. The fields are exceptionally nice and the coin overall offers excellent eye-appeal. There are but 4 graded at this level with 3 MS63BN and one lone MS65BN. A truly lovely Draped Bust Cent with an impressive provenance. I've placed the images in a white background to better illustrate the true color. Provenance: Ex Sheraton Coin Co. 1947 - Admiral Worthington S. Bitler Aug.1960 - Abe Kosoff Apr. 1961 - given to Ted Naftzger in exchange for cataloging the Bitler cents - Goldberg Auction, Naftzger Part I Sept. 2008 - LW, Ltd. private client. Image

1879 S $1 MS 67+ PCGS POP: $1095
*I really don't buy a lot of dollars - don't see a great many I really fall in love with. But, this 1879 S, common as it is, is uncommonly nice with a terrific look and technically about as nice as it gets. Exceptionally clean with wonderful skin and light original color, it really does impress me more than many of the 68's I encounter. Image
